Sedation
and Anesthesia
| Our doctors are thoroughly trained in the proper
administration of anesthetic agents. They are knowledgeable in pain and anxiety
control and possess extensive clinical experience in all anesthesia techniques, including
local oral anesthesia. Intravenous (IV) sedation is also available. We can arrange
to have a certified anesthesiologist administer the IV anesthesia. |
Sedation Methods |
- During dental and oral surgical procedures, local anesthesia (Novocain) is
administered to block sensations.
- Some patients experience a higher anxiety level and may require a
sedative drug to help them relax. A sedated patient may remember the procedure, but will
be more relaxed.
- In some instances, a patient may require an additional medication to act
as anesthesia. This will help place the patient in a deeper twilight sleep.
Conscious I.V. Sedation
The sedative medications are typically given intravenously (IV). The
effects are more profound through this means of administration and are more precisely
controlled by the doctor. With the use of an IV, if more medication is needed during
the procedure, the IV allows for an easier administration of the additional medication.

Various monitors are used. Your doctor, along with at least one
trained member of the staff, will always be with you and closely observing you throughout
your treatment.
